Joe Carpenter
Founder of Giving Voice to History

Joseph Harris Carpenter, the founder, and owner of Giving Voice to History, served eight years in the United States Air Force Medical Corps and is a veteran of Desert Storm. After his military career, he spent twenty-five years in medical device and insurance sales before pursuing his life-long passion for history. Joe attended The University of Texas at Arlington, completing a B.A. in History with a minor in Military History in 2020, graduating summa cum laude. He completed his M.A. in History in 2022, receiving Public History and Archives certificates. He was honored with the George Wolfskill Award for Excellence in Master’s Studies in History. Joe has presented his award-winning research at both the Society for Military History and the Texas State Historical Association.

Since 2020, Joe has worked as an Oral Historian for The University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Tech University’s Vietnam Center and Archive, collecting and documenting the experiences of U.S. military veterans. With his extensive life experience and sincere dedication to sharing the stories of those who have lived history, Joe brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to Giving Voice to History. Through this site, he seeks to showcase his love of United States History, Military History, Archives, and Public/Oral History. Joe resides in Arlington, Texas, with his family and continues pursuing his passion for history through his work at The University of Texas at Arlington.
